Dear Residents of Darke County,

The state of Ohio has implemented Child Find. The intent of Child Find is that all children from birth through age 21 with delays or disabilities are located, evaluated, and possibly identified to receive the appropriate special education and related services they require.

Darke County Schools are responsible for locating and identifying children with disabilities residing within our district, or attending a non-public school within our district, and providing necessary services to meet their educational needs in the public school setting. Darke County Schools are seeking to identify resident students between the ages of 3 and 21 who may exhibit difficulties with mobility, voice or hearing, vision, physical limitations due to orthopedic or muscle abnormalities, cognitive, language, or emotional difficulties.

If you know a child who resides in any of the Darke County schools with one or more of the difficulties listed above, please encourage their parent(s) to contact their school district to schedule an appointment. A member of our team will initiate a referral for a screening or possible evaluation. In order to receive early intervention or special education services, a child must be evaluated to confirm that they have a delay or disability that falls under state definitions.

If you have a child, or know of a child, you feel may be delayed in any of the areas listed above and is younger than 3 years old, referrals can be made through the Help Me Grow Program at 937-547-9392.

Please feel free to call and request additional information or ask any questions regarding our service by contacting Lisa Giuffre, Director of Pupil Services, at 937-548-4915.
